Tickets

Greater Anglia is an impartial retailer and sells train tickets on behalf of all Train Operators. Any complaints about delayed trains should be directed to the company which operated the delayed service.

If you have an Advance ticket and you are delayed on a connecting service and miss your reserved service, you will be allowed to travel on a later service, although no seat reservation will be provided and a seat cannot be guaranteed. This applies for journeys involving any combination of Train Companies.

On some journeys two or more possible routes exist (e.g. one via London and one avoiding London). In these cases you will often see two or more tickets with the same name and different prices. The difference in price reflects different journey lengths or times.

Train tickets can be used by anyone even though certain tickets will have the name of the traveller or person who booked the tickets printed on them.

When you are making a booking you can request that the tickets are sent to a different UK address.

If you do purchase tickets for someone else please note that the sales receipt will be enclosed with the tickets . This shows the last four digits of the credit card as well as the purchase price.

For Self Service ticket collection please remember that the credit/debit card used to make booking is required along with the Ticket Collection reference provided when the booking was made.

GroupSave entitles groups of 3-9 adults travelling together off peak to receive a 1/3 off all our fares. What's more, there's no need to book in advance. You can just turn up, ask for GroupSave and go.

GroupSave is available on the entire Greater Anglia network, including Stansted Express, and also on the services of c2c, Chiltern Railways, First Capital Connect, Great Western Railway, London Midland, London Overground, SouthEastern, Southern and South West Trains. There is also limited availability on East Midlands Trains (not on main line services to and from London) and ScotRail.

GroupSave reductions are available at the same times as undiscounted Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak tickets. On Greater Anglia services, for Off-Peak tickets this will be no later than 09:30 (earlier in the case of long-distance journeys to London and for journeys not involving London). Evening ticket restrictions which apply to undiscounted tickets also apply to tickets with GroupSave reductions. Evening ticket restrictions generally only apply to Super Off-Peak journeys from London (to all destinations) and to longer-distance Off-Peak journeys from London (to Ipswich and beyond). Other Off-Peak tickets from London do not have evening peak restrictions. Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak tickets for journeys on Greater Anglia services not involving London do not have evening peak restrictions. If you are in any doubt, please enquire.

Occasionally additional restrictions are applied on the validity of GroupSave discounts, particularly on some other Train Companies' services during special events - you should click here to see if any restrictions affect your intended travel date and route.

Passengers must travel together at all times for the tickets to be valid.

You must carry your ticket with you when you are travelling on our trains or are on our platforms, and show it to our staff when requested. Your ticket is a valuable document and you should treat it with care. We do not undertake to replace lost tickets.

If you have a ticket purchased with a Railcard discount, you must carry your Railcard with you and show it alongside the ticket when we ask to see your ticket. A ticket with a Railcard discount is not valid unless the Railcard is shown with the ticket. If you cannot show a Railcard you will have to buy a completely new full-fare ticket.

If you have an Advance ticket, this will have a reservation coupon for a particular train as well as the actual ticket. You must present both the ticket and reservation on the train when requested by our staff.

If you have a Season Ticket and you have forgotten to bring it with you, you must buy a ticket for the journey you are making. You can claim a refund for these tickets up to a maximum of twice in any 12 month period. It is free the first time, but an admin charge of £10 will be payable for the second time.

If you cannot show a ticket when requested by our staff on a train or at a station, you may be charged a Penalty fare. This does not apply on our Rural services radiating out from Ipswich and Norwich, or on the Sudbury or Southminster branch lines. It also does not apply where the ticket office was closed and no Permit to Travel or ticket machine was available.
