Cycle facilities across North Essex boosted by DfT funding

Rail passengers in north Essex are set tobenefit from improved cycle facilities after the Department for Transport awardedmore than £80,000 to Abellio Greater Anglia.

The funding has been announced as part of a£15m investment around the country from the Cycle Rail Fund Scheme.

A total of £81,900 will be spent onincreasing cycle parking at Frinton, Hatfield Peverel, Hythe, Kirby Cross,Thorpe-Le-Soken, Wivenhoe and Harwich Town stations, which are managed byAbellio Greater Anglia.

The scheme will see enhanced lighting andCCTV installed at all stations.

The initiative was backed by Essex CountyCouncil, which funded 10pc of the scheme.

Paul Oxley, Abellio Greater Anglia'sStakeholder Manager, said: "We are very pleased to have received fundingfor all of the bids we submitted to the DfT. These funds will enable us toprovide additional cycle parking to some of our popular stations for cyclistson our network and extra security to some of our pre-existing facilities.

"These bids would not have beenpossible were it not for third party funding from our local authority partner, EssexCounty Council and we are very thankful for their support."
