Cycle facilities across South Essex boosted by DfT funding

Rail passengers in south Essex are set tobenefit from improved cycle facilities after the Department for Transport awardedmore than £300,000 to Abellio Greater Anglia.

The funding has been announced as part of a£15m investment around the country from the Cycle Rail Fund Scheme.

A total of £326,700 will be spent onincreasing cycle parking and enhancing lighting and CCTV at Ingatestone, SouthWoodham Ferrers and Chelmsford stations, which are managed by Abellio GreaterAnglia.

On the Crouch Valley line, bespoke cyclestorage shelters will be built at Battlesbridge and North Fambridge stations whileChelmsford will benefit from a £180,000 investment which will see a disusedrailway arch converted into additional cycle parking which will involve newflooring, lighting, CCTV and lining the archway.

The initiative was backed by Essex CountyCouncil, which funded 10pc of the scheme.
