Cycle facilities boosted by DfT funding

Rail passengers in Essex are set to benefitfrom improved cycle facilities after the Department for Transport awarded morethan £300,000 to Abellio Greater Anglia.

The funding has been announced as part of a£15m investment around the country from the Cycle Rail Fund Scheme.

A total of £18,000 will be spent onincreasing cycle parking and enhancing lighting and CCTV at StanstedMountfitchet station, which is managed by Abellio Greater Anglia.

The initiative was backed by Essex CountyCouncil, which funded 10pc of the scheme.

Paul Oxley, Abellio Greater Anglia'sStakeholder Manager, said: "We are very pleased to have received fundingfor all of the bids we submitted to the DfT. These funds will enable us toprovide additional cycle parking to some of our popular stations for cyclistson our network and extra security to some of our pre-existing facilities.

"These bids would not have beenpossible were it not for third party funding from our local authority partner, EssexCounty Council and we are very thankful for their support."
