Improvement work commences at Bury St Edmunds rail station

Passengers using Bury StEdmunds rail station are to benefit from improved facilities, with betteraccess for disabled people, thanks to improvement works being carried out by AbellioGreater Anglia.

Work has started to refurbish theexisting toilet facilities creating a more modern, welcoming and hygienic environmentfor customers using the station.

A brandnew ladies toilet will be built using part of the floor area of the existingwaiting room. The existing wheelchair ramp will be removed and floor brought upto platform level with automatic doors installed to make the toilet easier toaccess for those with mobility problems.


A newdisabled toilet and a gents toilet will then be installed within the existingtoilet space, again with access from the platform through automatic doors.

The work ensures thesefacilities are compliant with the requirements of the Disability DiscriminationAct, making them more accessible to those with restricted mobility .

New seating will also beinstalled in the waiting room, which will be repainted and receive a new flooring.Improvements will also be made to cycle storage facilities.

James Steward, Area Customer Services Manager, said, “The new facilitieswill benefit passengers using the station, creating a more welcoming andpleasant environment for customers as they wait for trains. We hope customerswill bear with us while these improvement works are carried out and we areworking to minimise any inconvenience."
