March railway station to host heritage open day

Rail enthusiasts in Cambridgeshire areinvited to take a nostalgic step back in time when the Friends of March stationhold a 1940s event later this month.

The open day will take place between 10amand 5pm on Saturday 23 July at March railway station. Visitors to the stationwill be able to see historic railway memorabilia and vintage displays, whichhave been crafted by the Friends of March station and the station adopters.

A bus service will also operate between therail station and the Festival of the Forties event in Knights End Road, sopeople can enjoy both events on the same day. A book sale and refreshments willalso be available on the day.

Adrian Sutterby, Chairman of the Friends ofMarch Station, said: “The station is an important part of the local community,having connected people to the capital for more than 130 years The station hasa wealth of history and celebrated its 130th anniversary last year.

Paul Oxley, Stakeholder Manager, AbellioGreater Anglia said: “We’re very grateful to the Friends and the Hereward CommunityRail Partnership for all their work across the local community to promote trainservices at March and we hope the event is a big success.”

Event is free to attend and all are welcome.
