Plaque at Shelford station remembers Ron's contribution

Family and colleagues of Ron Gooch,Shelford station’s former adopter, have unveiled a plaque in his memory.

Ron worked on the railways for 49 years,serving as a fireman before becoming a train driver. Following his retirementhe became the station adopter at Shelford station where worked hard to keep thestation gardens in pristine condition.

Ron sadly passed away in January 2014 andas a tribute to his memory, family, friends and colleagues unveiled a plaque inhis memory at the station on Saturday 2nd May.

The unveiling was attended by Ron’s wifeJean, Abellio Greater Anglia’s Managing Director, Jamie Burles, and otherrepresentatives from the train company. The plaque states that Ron was “lovedby all who knew him” and will permanently remind station users of the hugecontribution he made.

Abellio Greater Anglia’s Customer ServiceManager, Alan Neville, who spoke at the ceremony, said: “This is a fitting wayto remember Ron’s contribution to the rail industry and the many hours he putin as a volunteer at Shelford station. We will always be grateful for the careand attention he bestowed on the station gardens, helping to create a warmwelcome for everyone who visited the station.”
