Stansted Mountfitchet improvement works begin

Work to improve Stansted Mountfitchet railstation commenced on Monday 16th February.

Abellio Greater Anglia is investing £470K toimprove the facilities, with a further £180K from the Department forTransport’s ‘Access for All’ fund to create easier access for those withmobility problems.

The work will be carried out in two stages.

The first stage will see completerefurbishment of the booking hall with improvements to the ticket office,including better access for pushchairs and those with mobility problems, accessibleticket office windows and the installation of a new, easily accessible toiletcompliant with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act

The first stage is expected to take four tosix weeks to complete and necessitates the temporary closure of the ticketoffice while this work is carried out. Passengers will still be able topurchase tickets from mobile ticket sellers on duty at the station and anadditional temporary card-only ticket machine will be situated on theLondon-bound platform.

The second stage of the stationrefurbishment will see a complete electrical re-wire and improved lighting toimprove energy efficiency and create a better station ambience.

New Customer Information Screens will alsobe installed to provide clear, accurate and timely train running information topassengers and CCTV coverage will be improved.
