Book in advance to get best fares and avoid the queues

The train operator for the East of England, Greater Anglia, is encouraging football fans to buy tickets in advance and benefit from the best value fares, as Ipswich Town play in the Premier League this season, for the first time since 2002.

Rail passengers are encouraged to purchase tickets ahead of matchdays, including via the Greater Anglia app, to save time and avoid queues.

Extra staff will also be on hand at Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds to help customers buy tickets before they board services and an additional ticket machine has been installed at Ipswich railway station, to provide an additional ticket purchase option and help passenger flows though the station at busy times.

The train operator is also highlighting ways for fans to save money on their rail tickets with Duo, GroupSave and railcard promotions.

Duo tickets allow two people travelling together on weekends to benefit from 25% off tickets, while groups of three to nine adults can save 1/3 on Off-Peak fares with GroupSave.

There is also a range of railcards available, which gives passengers discounts on train tickets. Most railcards cost £30 for an annual membership and offer 1/3 off travel. A breakdown of the railcards and their benefits can be found on the Greater Anglia website.

James Steward, Area Customer Service Manager, Greater Anglia, said:

“Congratulations to Ipswich Town FC on their return to the Premier League. We are looking forward to welcoming more football fans on matchdays.

“Additional staff will be carrying out ticket checks, and customers are reminded to buy a ticket before they board.

“In order to beat the queues, customers are advised to buy tickets on the Greater Anglia app or website.”

Greater Anglia does not charge a booking fee. For the cheapest fares, customers should book direct via the Greater Anglia app or website.
