Disruption via Bury St Edmunds

We're sad to inform you that a person was hit by a train, earlier today, between Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds. This has caused the closure of the line, earlier this evening.

Further disruption is being caused after lightening struck the signalling system near Thurston, damaging the signalling system. Services are currently unable to run between Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds.

Routes affected;

  • Ipswich - Cambridge via Newmarket
  • Ipswich- Peterborough via Ely

Alternative Travel Options

  • Travel on Greater Anglia services between Ipswich and Norwich, where you can change for Greater Anglia and East Midlands Railway services to Ely and Peterborough.
  • Travel on CrossCountry services between Cambridge and Peterborough via Ely
  • Travel on East Midlands Railway services between Ely and Peterborough
  • Travel on Great Northern and Thameslink services between Cambridge and Stevenage, where you can change for services to Peterborough.
